Presentation abstract: This session delves into the similarities and differences in a very basic function of the two most popular database platforms- Indexing.

An index is a simple copy of select column of data, but is that it? Not everything is as simple as it first seems and the big picture can be disseminated to take the boring topic of indexing and make it new again. Digging into the performance strengths, weaknesses, management and maintenance demands, the attendee’s take aways will be a better understanding of why each platform’s decision to choose indexing features and how enhancements have occurred over the years. Admiration for the competitors product? Maybe. Appreciation for what your preferred product has? Definitely.

Speaker biography: Kellyn Pot’Vin-Gorman is a member of the Oak Table Network and an Oracle ACE Director alumni. She is the Technical Intelligence Manager and Evangelist for the Office of CTO at Delphix, a company recognized for it's impressive virtualization and data masking environment capabilities. Kellyn is known for her extensive work with virtualization, Enterprise Manager, shell and python scripting, environment optimization tuning, automation and cloud initiatives. Her blog, and social media activity under her handle, DBAKevlar is well respected for her insight and content. She is the lead author on a number of technical books, hosts webinars for numerous technical groups and has presented at numerous Oracle conferences, like Oracle Open World, HotSos, Collaborate and KSCOPE. She also speaks on SQL server at SQL Saturday events, along with other technologies, including, but not limited to- Agile, DevOps and Test Data Management in the US and Europe.
